Skills Training &
Small Groups
Short Sessions, Big Impact
Our skills training sessions are intentionally designed to meet the developmental needs of children, teens, and young adults. Many neurodivergent learners — especially those with ADHD, anxiety, or executive functioning challenges — make the most progress with short, focused, and consistent work.
In just 30 minutes, we target specific goals without overwhelming your child, keeping them engaged while maximizing their energy and attention. Think of these sessions as guided practice or coaching - structured, personalized, and designed to build skills step by step. At the end of each session, clients are given homework and parents receive take home strategies to support progress at home.
For added support, we offer the option to pair skills training with counseling for more comprehensive care. Each session is grounded in evidence-based curricula that focus on strengthening areas such as:
cognitive flexibility
social skills
coping strategies and self-advocacy
executive functioning
memory and organization
Join Our Horizon Circles
At Closer Horizons, we offer weekly social-emotional groups called Horizon Circles, providing adolescents and young adults with a supportive space to connect with peers, encourage personal growth, and practice lifelong skills. Each session is thoughtfully designed around individual goals identified by the participant and their parent or guardian.
Our six-week cycles follow a structured schedule aligned with the curriculum that best meets the needs of each group. Current curricula focus on social skills, executive functioning, and coping strategies.
If you have questions about the curricula or would like to learn which group may be the best fit, please reach out to Dr. G — she would be happy to discuss your child’s goals and needs.
In these small groups, participants learn to:
Identify and understand emotions
Practice healthy coping and calming strategies
Express feelings in safe, constructive ways
For advanced participants, group content will explore life transitions, grief, and strengths-based strategies for navigating and coping with differences.
